What Is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a science that takes years to master. It originates from the Greek word ‘Hypnos’ which means ‘sleep’. Although hypnosis does not put you to sleep in any way it does put you in a type of trance that is hard to get out of.
Firstly, to define specifically what hypnosis is, the dictionary definition could be helpful. The Oxford dictionary defines hypnosis as:
Noun
[Mass noun]
· The induction of a state of consciousness in which a person apparently loses the power of voluntary action and is highly responsive to suggestion or direction. Its use in therapy, typically to recover suppressed memories or to allow modification of behaviour, has been revived but is still controversial.
Hypnosis, you probably think of the bad guy in your childhood movies that would show innocent little people his spiral and command them to do his evil, mastermind bidding. Well hypnosis is a lot more than just that. You cant have people at your command in a matter of seconds without having a high level university degree. Hypnotists do not learn all that information in a matter of days, instead they study for years to acquire those special skills.
As well as that, hypnosis is not just that entertaining act you see on TV to make people do crazy stuff, it is a lot more than that. it can be used to help people quit smoking, recover from surgery or stop their bad habits.
Hypnosis Works on more than just humans, hypnosis will work on anything that has a large enough brain, using the right method to put them into a hypnotic trance.
